Chocolates are life. Chocolates are the reason to live. Especially for me! What is this frenzy about a food product made from roasted and ground cacao pods? Well, some say that they activate hormones in our bodies that make us fall in love with them. Well, whatever it is, they are in the literal sense “little drops of heaven”. In this article, we will read many bizarre and fun facts about chocolates.

  1. An average serving of any milk chocolate bar has about the same amount of caffeine as much as a cup of decaf coffee. So pregnant ladies, Munch on!
  2. Each cacao tree produces approximately 2,500 beans. But given, the delicate nature of these trees, an average of 30% of this produce is lost.
  3. A lot of studies have demonstrated and proved that one of the major saturated fats components of chocolate does not raise the cholesterol levels in our bodies, like other hard fats. So gulp, melt, lick, munch! (in moderation!)
  4. 70% of the World’s Cocoa come from West Africa
  5. Every piece of chocolate contains at least two doses of cocoa butter—the natural amount naturally present in the bean, plus an extra dollop to boost the creaminess.
  6. Chocolates are known to be stress-busters, relaxants, and aphrodisiacs. This is because they have been observed to increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain. These are the happy and love hormones of our body, so they literally make us feel in love while their consumption. So, exam stress? Breakup? Fought with someone? Gulp up!!
  7. Chocolate is extracted from cacao beans that grow in pod-shaped fruits that grow on tropical cacao trees. The cacao trees belong to the family of Malvaceae. Malvaceae includes other members like okra and cotton. So, chocolates are indirectly vegetables.
  8. Chocolates and cocoa products may be dangerous for your pet as it contains a toxic component called theobromine. While humans can easily metabolize this component, it takes time for the pets to process, which only builds up to the toxicity. In fact, dogs are so sensitive to them, that even a little portion can cause intoxication and severe reactions.
  9. Once upon a time, in the history of the Aztec Empire, Cacao Beans Were Used As A Currency. The Aztecs loved and valued cacao beans so much so that they started using them as their currency during the times of civilization.
  10. Cacao trees, which are tropical beauties, may actually live up to 200 years. However, interestingly, they produce beans for just 25 years of their lifespan.
